From Consumerism to Connection: The Case for Experience-Based Marketing

Patrick Marvin

OATS was born out of frustration.

Not with marketing itself, but with what it’s been used to sell.

For decades, great marketing has been pointed at things we don’t actually need. Faster upgrades. Cheaper junk. One-click purchases that promise satisfaction and deliver clutter. The machine works incredibly well, but the outcome feels hollow.

We didn’t want to fight that machine.
We wanted to redirect it.

OATS exists to use the same tools that sell stuff to sell something better. Experiences that stick. Experiences that change people in small ways and sometimes in big ones.

We believe a day on the river is worth more than a box on your doorstep.
We believe the adrenaline rush of dropping into a rapid beats the dopamine hit of a purchase.
We believe watching the sun set behind a mountain does more for you than anything you can scroll past.
We believe that feeling your shoulders relax after a few days outside is a kind of wealth most people are missing.

Our goal is not to convince people to buy more.
Our goal is to help them choose better.

Better weekends.
Better memories.
Better stories.
Better versions of themselves.

Outdoor guides, tour operators, and experience creators are already doing the hardest part. They’re putting real value into the world. They’re creating moments that people carry with them long after the trip is over.

OATS simply makes sure those moments don’t stay hidden.

We use modern marketing to shift spending away from things that fade and toward experiences that last. We help the right people find the right adventures at the right time. Not louder. Not pushier. Just clearer.

Because when people spend their money on meaningful experiences, everyone wins.

The guest goes home changed.
The operator fills their calendar.
And the world gets a little more connected to the outdoors that sustains us.

That’s what we’re here for.

We exist to help more people have more unforgettable experiences outside.
